SUSHIRO opens its first store in Indonesia, its 8th area. 11/27 “SUSHIRO Pondok Indah Mall” opens in Jakarta ~ WOW! the World with “Yummy!” ~

FOOD & LIFE COMPANIES Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Suita City, Osaka Prefecture; President and CEO: Mizutome Koichi; hereinafter referred to as F&LC) is pleased to announce that on Monday, November 27th, it opened its first store in the Republic of Indonesia, the “Sushiro Pondok Indah Mall Store”. On the day of the opening, a commemorative ceremony was held in front of the store, including a speech by the representative and a ribbon cutting ceremony, and the store got off to a grand start in the presence of many customers.
F&LC is expanding overseas to realize its VISION of “Let’s change the taste of everyday life. Let’s spread joy to the world.” The store in Indonesia is the eighth area including Japan, and Sushiro’s 136th store overseas. We will strive to deliver Sushiro’s “delicious sushi” to as many Indonesian customers as possible.

Accelerating overseas expansion of F&LC

F&LC began its overseas expansion in 2011, and has expanded to Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, mainland China, and Indonesia. In the “FY24-26 Medium-Term Management Plan” announced in November this year, the company set the goal of “Continued expansion of overseas business, FY26 sales composition ratio 40%”, and is focusing on spreading joy to the world with the brands it has honed in Japan. The number of stores is expected to increase tenfold from 38 stores at the end of the fiscal year ending September 2020 and 135 stores at the end of the fiscal year ending September 2023 to more than 400 stores by the fiscal year ending September 2026. In addition, F&LC has begun preparations to expand all four of its main brands (Sushiro, Kyotaru, Misaki, and Sugidama) overseas.

Muslim-friendly menu available

At our first store in Indonesia, we are committed to providing Muslim-friendly menus. This initiative began at the Dubai World Expo 2020. As the only restaurant operator at the Japan Pavilion, we opened the Sushi Road by Expo Store for a limited time, and for the first time, we began developing Muslim-friendly menus as Sushiro. With this background in mind, we decided to open a store in Indonesia, a country with remarkable economic development in Southeast Asia, a rice-eating culture, and where the conveyor belt sushi market is expected to expand in the future.

The location is in the bustling Pondok Indah Mall, one of Jakarta’s leading shopping malls. As with other areas, the company placed importance on delivering the delicious sushi of Japanese Sushiro to local customers in as much of an original form as possible, and is focusing on direct management in store operations, menu composition, pricing, in-store cooking, utilization of technology, hygiene management, and human resource development. At the commemorative ceremony on the opening day, Tsuneki Hayashi, President Director of the local subsidiary PT INDONESIA SUSHIRO RESTAURANTS, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Our mission is to provide many people with the same quality of sushi as Sushiro in Japan at an affordable price, and we would like to continue to listen to our customers’ opinions as we operate the store in order to provide them with delicious sushi.” Also, Jeffri S. Tanudjaja, Vice President Director of PT Metropolitan Kentjana Tbk, was the guest of honor, along with Koichi Mizutome, President and CEO of FOOD & LIFE COMPANIES, and Hironobu Kato, Vice President and COO of Overseas Business, who both participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Starting with this first store, we will work with local staff to create a store that will please Indonesian customers, aiming to deliver Sushiro’s “deliciousness,” “fun,” and “value beyond price.”
