SUSHIRO Opens New Store in Myeongdong, the Heart of Seoul, Korea. SUSHIRO Myeongdong Cathedral Store opens on Monday, September 30th. The Latest Model “Digiro” Will Also Be Introduced in the 2nd Overseas Area.
FOOD & LIFE COMPANIES Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Suita City, Osaka Prefecture; President and CEO: Masahiro Yamamoto; hereinafter “F&LC”) continues to expand its overseas business in order to realize its VISION, “Let’s change everyday deliciousness. Let’s spread joy to the world.” We are pleased to announce that on Monday, September 30th, we opened the “Sushiro Myeongdong Cathedral Store” in Myeongdong, the center of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. With this new store, Sushiro now has 10 stores in South Korea. We will work with local staff to create a store that will please as many Korean customers as possible, aiming to deliver Sushiro’s “taste,” “fun,” and value beyond the price.
What happened on the day
The opening ceremony was attended by F&LC Executive Vice President Hironobu Kato, in charge of overseas corporations and overseas business headquarters, as well as local subsidiary Sushiro Korea, Inc. President Shunsaku Tanaka and Executive Vice President Kazunari Matsuo. Matsuo stated his determination, saying, “We have finally reached the point where our new store in Myeongdong has opened. We promise to provide not only high quality sushi, but also to create a store that is loved by everyone who comes to Myeongdong.”
The store was full within an hour of opening, and continued to be bustling with customers. There were many tourists from overseas, so sales were conducted using a variety of languages. Customers who used the store praised the “taste” of Sushiro’s sushi, the customer service, and the convenience and fun of Dejiro. They also sent in happy comments such as “It’s as fun as traveling to Japan” and “I’d be happy if there were more Sushiro stores in Korea.”

The reason for opening the Myeongdong store and its features
In 2011, Sushiro opened its first overseas store in Korea. Since then, it has expanded to Seoul, Busan, Incheon, and other locations, winning acclaim from customers in each region. Now, at last, the company has opened a store in Myeongdong, the heart of the capital, Seoul. Myeongdong is said to be Seoul’s most bustling shopping district, and is visited by many young people and tourists, and is a place that actively embraces modern trends and new culture. We decided to open a store there because we felt that not only would the quality of Sushiro’s sushi be well received, but also our cutting-edge store management that pursues efficiency.
A feature of the Myeongdong Cathedral store is that it has introduced “Digiro (Digital Sushiro Vision),” the latest model of Sushiro in Japan, which combines a new digital vision and conveyor belt. This is the second area after mainland China and the first in Korea to have it installed. As Sushiro celebrates its 40th anniversary in Japan in September 2023, this initiative is to propose “conveyor belt sushi one step ahead” by digitally recreating the “fun of conveyor belt sushi.” We decided to introduce Digiro because we were confident that its innovative and entertaining nature would be well received by Myeongdong customers who are sensitive to new things (as of September 30, the number of stores with Digiro installed is 19 in Japan, 3 in mainland China, and 1 in Korea).
By introducing the latest model in Myeongdong, the heart of Seoul, Sushiro will offer customers a new Sushiro experience and strive to achieve further growth and expansion in Korea.
Accelerating overseas expansion of F&LC
F&LC began its overseas expansion in 2011, and currently operates conveyor belt sushi restaurant “Sushiro” in seven areas (Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Mainland China, and Indonesia) and popular sushi izakaya “Sugidama” in two areas (Hong Kong and the United States). The number of stores is steadily expanding, from 38 stores at the end of the fiscal year ending September 2020, to 135 stores at the end of the fiscal year ending September 2023, and 182 stores at the end of the fiscal year ending September 2024. When opening Sushiro stores, it is important to deliver the “delicious sushi” refined at Sushiro in Japan to local customers in its original form, and is committed to “direct management” of stores, menu composition, pricing, in-store cooking, utilization of technology, hygiene management, and human resource development.
In the “FY24-26 Medium-term Management Plan,” we have positioned strengthening overseas expansion as one of our key priorities, and we are committed to spreading joy around the world with the brands we have honed in Japan.
