(Headquarters: Suita City, Osaka Prefecture; President and CEO: Koichi Mizutome; hereinafter referred to as F&LC) is pleased to announce that on Friday, May 10th, the “Sushiro Tianjin Joy City Store” opened, its first store in the North China region of mainland China. On the day, a commemorative ceremony was held in front of the store. The opening ceremony started with a bang, with greetings from the company’s representative, a taiko drum show, and an opening announcement from the store manager, all watched by many customers. More than 200 groups of customers lined up, and the store was full immediately after the opening. Many customers praised the “taste” of Sushiro’s sushi, the quality of the ingredients, and the customer service. F&LC is expanding overseas in order to realize its VISION, “Let’s change the taste of everyday life. Let’s spread joy to the world.” We will strive to deliver “taste” to as many customers as possible in the North China region.

Background of the store opening and opening day

Sushiro, which opened its first store in mainland China in 2021, has now opened its first store in North China in Tianjin. Tianjin is a city full of energy and commerce, and at the same time, as a port city since ancient times, it has been in contact with various cultures and has a soil that accepts diverse cultures. In addition, in terms of food, it is rich in fresh seafood because it faces the sea and is popular among people. Given this background, we decided to open a store in Tianjin, believing that Tianjin would be receptive to Sushiro’s sushi. The commemorative ceremony on the day of the opening was attended by Kazuo Aratani, Executive Officer in charge of overseas business in Greater China at FOOD & LIFE COMPANIES, Inc., and Kazunari Matsuda, General Manager of Beijing Sushiro Catering Co., Ltd., a local subsidiary. In his opening remarks, Matsuda expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “By thoroughly focusing on ingredients, in-store cooking, and freshness management, we hope that customers in Tianjin will be able to enjoy sushi of the same quality as Sushiro in Japan at an affordable price.” Starting with this first store, we aim to deliver Sushiro’s “delicious,” “fun,” and “value beyond the price” offerings, and together with local staff, we will work to create a store that will please customers in North China, mainland China.

Accelerating overseas expansion of F&LC

F&LC began its overseas expansion in 2011, and currently operates conveyor belt sushi restaurant “Sushiro” in seven areas (Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Mainland China, and Indonesia) and popular sushi izakaya “Sugidama” in two areas (Hong Kong and the United States). The number of stores is steadily expanding, from 38 stores at the end of the fiscal year ending September 2020 to 135 stores at the end of the fiscal year ending September 2023. When opening Sushiro stores, it is important to deliver the “delicious sushi” of Japanese Sushiro to local customers in its original form, and we are committed to “direct management” of stores, menu composition, pricing, in-store cooking, utilization of technology, hygiene management, and human resource development. In the “FY24-26 Medium-Term Management Plan,” we set “continue to expand overseas business and achieve 40% of sales in FY26,” and are focusing on spreading joy to the world with the brand we have honed in Japan. Furthermore, during this time, we have begun preparations to expand all four of F&LC’s major brands (Sushiro, Kyotaru, Misaki, and Sugidama) overseas.
